Artificial Topography

Big Furniture Like a Cave This is the award-winning project won the Grand Prize of Art in Container International Competition. My idea is to hollow out the volume inside a container in order to build amorphous space like a cave. It is made of only plastic material. About 1000 sheets of the soft plastic material of 10-mm thickness were cut down in contour line form and were laminated like stratum. This is not only art but also big furniture. Because all the portions are soft like a sofa, and person who enter into this space can relax by finding the place suitable for the form of its own body.

Order - development

Because of their limited experience comparing with skilled workers, many technique problems popped out during the construction: the edge of plank is outward, how to identify the cutting angle of every plank at surface? How to maintain the balance and identify the stress point? Every step of this project was beset with difficulties.7 of them worked together, broke in and matched up, finally completed the work 10 days later. Exploded

Exploded Chair is inspired by the long process behind the creation of furniture often taken for granted. Made of solid wood combined with clear resin, this chair exposes the joint system, which is one of the most important parts of a chair but usually hidden. Labyrinth

The Danish designer and craftman Benjamin Nordsmark have created the Labyrinth Table to show how a wellknown object like a table can be given an extra dimension by creating a small universe inside of it. The Labyrinth consist of several walls under a sheet of diamont glass. And inside of it there are six characteristic figures that can be moved around by handles underneath it. The idea is to generate nostalgic feelings in peoples mind and encourage them to explore and to go deeper into the story of the labyrinth.

The Doubleface

The vibrant, unexpected and surreal nature of the Mexican character inspired the furniture collection “Los Enmascarados”, reflecting iconic Mexican masks. The Doubleface is one of the five pieces of the collection, his mask represents the battle between good and evil. The left side of the piece represents the good face, it seems normal, with its feet properly on the ground and its drawers facing the right way. The right side is the evil face, its feet are sticking dangerously up in the air and it has its unexpected evil drawer, you don’t really know what will happen when you open it.
